Born with Wings

Visionary Fiction – Book Review

Book Review: Born With Wings by Bianca Gubalke

“I recently finished the incredible work of visionary fiction by author Bianca Gubalke.
It’s one of those rare books that starts off immediately in the spiritual realm. From start to finish, this is visionary fiction at its finest and most bold. Swept up in the tale of incarnation, life, struggle, and purpose we follow the beautifully drawn characters as the author weaves a wonderful tale. An injured gosling and a little girl come together in lush and magical South Africa. There’s a call from ancestors and a drive for purpose, and danger’s never far away.
It’s a captivating tale, a journey of emotions through life, death, and rebirth.”

Book reviews count

Thoughtful book reviews by independent readers are critical for a book to succeed – hence helping the author. On the other hand, they assist potential buyers who are looking for a book to buy and to read.

While not all tastes are equal – and it does happen that despite a clear category and an explicit description a buyer may still choose the wrong book for his taste – normally, readers focus on the categories they generally prefer. Once they are attracted to one or the other book, positive reviews (4 to 5 stars) may influence their buying decision. If many readers enjoyed the book and hailed it as a great reading experience, chances are that the book is really good. Personally, I often buy books as gifts for friends, whose tastes I don’t necessarily share. Think Christmas! So a well written review will definitely be the difference for me. It doesn’t need to be a long story, but a few insightful lines will make all the difference.

On the other side, I might just be attracted to exactly what a reader who left a slightly negative review dislikes – so even a less favourable review can turn into a positive in the end.

“Born with Wings” can be found under Magical Realism and Metaphysical & Visionary (for the paperback version), and under Body, Mind & Spirit (Inspirational, Reincarnation, Afterlife) as well as under Metaphysical & Visionary for the ebook market. The category ‘Visionary Fiction’ does not yet exist . . . and a novel under Body, Mind & Spirit isn’t ideal, as that’s where many readers expect non-fiction books, but that’s where my audience is: people with a passion to expand their spiritual horizon and looking to change from within, rather than chasing after the many illusions out there!

Let me know if you agree!

What if you are ‘Born With Wings’ yet unable to fly?

Birds, like Angels, have long been seen as messengers in human life and culture. In some societies, the Crow is seen as a harbinger of danger, while in others the Crow is the conveyor of Wisdom and warnings to pay greater attention to our surroundings instead of living in a state of constant distraction between past and future. Likewise, the Owl has long been associated with Wisdom – but also with Death. Like Angels, too, birds can be both friends and enemies to each other and to humans. But suppose you are “Born With Wings” yet unable to fly?

Five Stars for out-of-this-world adventure

Suppose your destiny as a winged creature is very much in question given your obvious “disability”? How are you to fulfill your destiny and rise above the mundane dangers of existence, when you are confined to the vulnerable world of the earth-bound?

For one such winged creature, these questions were very much at the centre of her existence. Born in a beautiful and remote valley in South Africa, the Egyptian Goose we come to know as Piu Piu falls out of her nest and into the world of humans. Confined to earth with a broken wing could be a death sentence. Our little heroine, known here as Piu Piu, but in eternity as Anata, takes us on a delightful but perilous journey through earth-bound dangers, assisted by a young girl’s loving care, an ironic cat’s ambivalent companionship, an alert snake’s guidance and numerous encounters with unexpected allies amid Nature’s impersonal forces, on her way toward confrontation with her Fear, and potential Freedom, if her courage holds.

Friends and enemies, uneasy alliances and family dynamics all contribute to the temporal experience of Piu Piu’s life, but it is her recognition of who she really is, and her choice to face her destiny with courage, that turns her life into a truly magical tale. Opening a window between our physical world and the greater reality in which we all must learn to “fly” is an entrancing epic, in which all sentient creatures are tested, and our capacity to deal with different levels of reality determines whether we go on to the next step in our spiritual development or must repeat the still unlearned lessons.

Beautifully written, divinely inspired, “Born With Wings” is a new and revised edition of  The Immortal Life of Piu Piu, a wise and wonderful story in the magical tradition of “The Little Prince” and “Jonathan Livingston Seagull“.

Treat yourself to a unique and unexpected pleasure with an out-of-this-world adventure! FIVE STARS!

As the author of this visionary fiction novel, I’m deeply grateful for a book review like this – I feel understood and will stretch my wings even more to fly – after all, I was born with wings! As YOU are… and anyone else, of course!

Born With Wings Editorial Review

What Readers Say . . .

If YOU have ever written a book, a novella, even a poem, nothing is more humbling and inspiring than when a reader loves and understands the book, the story or mission you – as the author – put out there into the big wide world, pouring into it your heart, energy, your soul, your time and your money!

Born with Wings Novel by Bianca Gubalke

Writing a book is already quite an achievement. According to estimates almost everyone feels a book inside, but – despite the fact that millions of books are being published each year, it’s still only 1% (if I remember correctly), who actually have the guts to do it! It’s not only a major task in the physical sense, meaning the concentration, time, effort, discipline, planning, and yes: COURAGE and PERSEVERANCE it takes, but there’s also an emotional element that cannot be ignored. All those self-defeating thoughts and fears: Am I good enough? Who’d be interested to read my story when there are so many others out there…? You get the drift… It’s daunting, at least if it’s your very first book, which is not my case, but it still is impressive . . . just as a new audience is ALWAYS impressive, daunting and also exhilarating for an actor on stage.  But then publishing and marketing it are both another enormous stretch, with costly traps and pitfalls all along the way. Everywhere. Especially if you don’t live in the USA. Especially if your exchange rate is crippling and well… restrictive.  And who can you trust today, anyway?

Hence receiving a great positive editorial review is like a thundering ovation with bright bouquets of flowers flying through the air for a solitary actor on stage . . . I know, I’ve been there . . . giving you the strength to keep going, keep improving, until . . . The editorial review that follows was such a moment! Please enjoy and comment . . . and even better, why not get the book and lose yourself within it, too? WOW, it took courage to even say that . . . but just click on the images and have a great mystical journey into your own Self!

What Readers say about Bianca Gubalke Author

Bianca Gubalke has written a brilliant 5 Star novel destined to brighten the Silver Screen as a Classic Literary Creation

The Immortal Life of Piu Piu: A Magical Journey Exploring the Mystery of Life after Death (Dance Between Worlds Book 1), Bianca Gubalke, the author, is a fascinating person with intense interests in nature and philosophy, as well as theology, and a deep understanding of what is termed ‘Magic Realism’.

With “BORN WITH WINGS – The Immortal Life of Piu Piu” Bianca set out to write a story about nature and the natural world, revolving around the life of the main protagonist, an Egyptian ‘Anatidae’ gosling, that was found by a little girl named Pippa, and her tomcat, in a luscious garden in South Africa. They named the gosling ‘Piu Piu’. As their journey together begins, it takes the reader into a magical realm where the interconnectedness of life, death and rebirth are explored.

The beautiful cover is attractively designed to reflect the mystical treat awaiting the reader within the pages of this book. No errors of omission or commission were observed; spelling and grammar are excellent. The formatting of the book is excellent and enhanced by a generous photo-companion that highlights the meanings of particular passages.

The depth of the writing, and its power, are evident. The reader feels a strong element of spirituality and realism running like a vibrant thread through the tale, carrying him or her to new dimensions where reality seamlessly merges into metaphysics and an alternative magical reality. Even a die-hard skeptic like me, with no belief in the abstruse concept of an afterlife, was compelled to reconsider my beliefs and reserve judgement about the purpose of the very existence of every living being. This book will cause every reader to reflect on whether life is just a spontaneous spark in the canvas of time, giving life to inert molecules comprising matter, or has the spark of life been ignited as part of a celestial plan to give meaning and experience to existence as a whole? Bianca knows!

The story of Pippa and the ‘Immortal Piu Piu’ – who were one with the universe even before they were born – is stunningly riveting. Piu Piu was born to experience a life of her own choice – a life where she could explore the primeval flavor of the universe as it expands into the consciousness that pervades even the beings we do not associate with the power of expression or understanding. Pippa’s intriguing relationship with the tomcat, the death of a hen killed by a mongoose, Pippa’s song as sung by her mother in keeping with the ancient culture of the land, as well as little Piu Piu’s growth into a radiant goose sheltered by her new family, are exhilarating and mind-blowing events in this tale. An undercurrent of mysticism runs through the story, touching hitherto unfathomed chords of a kind of magical consciousness in the minds of the reader. Questions like ‘Are we really what we are?’ and ‘Does my life really have a purpose other than living it to its inevitable end?’ whirl through one’s mind. Each event seamlessly merges with the next, adding new dimensions of philosophical reflection that continue to expand the reader’s consciousness by leaps and bounds.

A quote from the book I particularly liked because it added new meaning to the very purpose of creation, was: “Nothing could stop life from breaking barriers on its mission to create, to expand and to thrive”.

Avoiding any spoilers, I award this beautiful and heart-touching literary creation a resounding 5 Stars, and will look forward to this sparkling author’s next book!
