Born with Wings

Visionary Fiction – Book Review

Book Review: Born With Wings by Bianca Gubalke

“I recently finished the incredible work of visionary fiction by author Bianca Gubalke.
It’s one of those rare books that starts off immediately in the spiritual realm. From start to finish, this is visionary fiction at its finest and most bold. Swept up in the tale of incarnation, life, struggle, and purpose we follow the beautifully drawn characters as the author weaves a wonderful tale. An injured gosling and a little girl come together in lush and magical South Africa. There’s a call from ancestors and a drive for purpose, and danger’s never far away.
It’s a captivating tale, a journey of emotions through life, death, and rebirth.”

A new Consciousness for Readers

‘Born with Wings’ – New Book Review

With an exotic setting against the backdrop of the breathtaking landscapes of South Africa, Born with Wings: The Immortal Life of Piu Piu by Bianca Gubalke takes the reader on a spiritual journey that explores the mystery of life and the triumph over fear. Right off the bat, the reader is introduced to Anata who seeks wisdom relating to her next incarnation from an Elder. It is interesting to notice that she’d forget who she is and be left alone with the freedom to choose what her next life could be like.
With fear stalking her every step, can she still remember “home” and her real purpose?
5 Stars for Born With Wings

When she enters her next life, she is a gosling that falls at the feet of Pippa, an African girl who adopts her. Now, an interesting adventure begins, a journey that will bring Piu Piu to the heart of grave dangers, making her face an enemy that would do anything to destroy her, a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

This novel is a great success on many levels.

Bianca Gubalke tells a story that will awaken a new consciousness in readers, a story that unveils the face of life and allows readers to ask questions about where they come from and what destiny holds for them.
The writing is crisp, somewhat evocative, laced with powerful images and symbolism. The author challenges readers to look past appearances, to learn to pay attention to the life surging within and around them, and to get a glimpse of a world beyond the physical.
I enjoyed the unpredictability in plot development, the pacing, the wonderful character development and the vivid setting. Born with Wings: The Immortal Life of Piu Piu is an inspiring story that will test the way we see life, ourselves, and the world around us.

This novel is a great success on many levels.

Born With Wings Editorial Review

What Readers Say . . .

If YOU have ever written a book, a novella, even a poem, nothing is more humbling and inspiring than when a reader loves and understands the book, the story or mission you – as the author – put out there into the big wide world, pouring into it your heart, energy, your soul, your time and your money!

Born with Wings Novel by Bianca Gubalke

Writing a book is already quite an achievement. According to estimates almost everyone feels a book inside, but – despite the fact that millions of books are being published each year, it’s still only 1% (if I remember correctly), who actually have the guts to do it! It’s not only a major task in the physical sense, meaning the concentration, time, effort, discipline, planning, and yes: COURAGE and PERSEVERANCE it takes, but there’s also an emotional element that cannot be ignored. All those self-defeating thoughts and fears: Am I good enough? Who’d be interested to read my story when there are so many others out there…? You get the drift… It’s daunting, at least if it’s your very first book, which is not my case, but it still is impressive . . . just as a new audience is ALWAYS impressive, daunting and also exhilarating for an actor on stage.  But then publishing and marketing it are both another enormous stretch, with costly traps and pitfalls all along the way. Everywhere. Especially if you don’t live in the USA. Especially if your exchange rate is crippling and well… restrictive.  And who can you trust today, anyway?

Hence receiving a great positive editorial review is like a thundering ovation with bright bouquets of flowers flying through the air for a solitary actor on stage . . . I know, I’ve been there . . . giving you the strength to keep going, keep improving, until . . . The editorial review that follows was such a moment! Please enjoy and comment . . . and even better, why not get the book and lose yourself within it, too? WOW, it took courage to even say that . . . but just click on the images and have a great mystical journey into your own Self!

What Readers say about Bianca Gubalke Author

Bianca Gubalke has written a brilliant 5 Star novel destined to brighten the Silver Screen as a Classic Literary Creation

The Immortal Life of Piu Piu: A Magical Journey Exploring the Mystery of Life after Death (Dance Between Worlds Book 1), Bianca Gubalke, the author, is a fascinating person with intense interests in nature and philosophy, as well as theology, and a deep understanding of what is termed ‘Magic Realism’.

With “BORN WITH WINGS – The Immortal Life of Piu Piu” Bianca set out to write a story about nature and the natural world, revolving around the life of the main protagonist, an Egyptian ‘Anatidae’ gosling, that was found by a little girl named Pippa, and her tomcat, in a luscious garden in South Africa. They named the gosling ‘Piu Piu’. As their journey together begins, it takes the reader into a magical realm where the interconnectedness of life, death and rebirth are explored.

The beautiful cover is attractively designed to reflect the mystical treat awaiting the reader within the pages of this book. No errors of omission or commission were observed; spelling and grammar are excellent. The formatting of the book is excellent and enhanced by a generous photo-companion that highlights the meanings of particular passages.

The depth of the writing, and its power, are evident. The reader feels a strong element of spirituality and realism running like a vibrant thread through the tale, carrying him or her to new dimensions where reality seamlessly merges into metaphysics and an alternative magical reality. Even a die-hard skeptic like me, with no belief in the abstruse concept of an afterlife, was compelled to reconsider my beliefs and reserve judgement about the purpose of the very existence of every living being. This book will cause every reader to reflect on whether life is just a spontaneous spark in the canvas of time, giving life to inert molecules comprising matter, or has the spark of life been ignited as part of a celestial plan to give meaning and experience to existence as a whole? Bianca knows!

The story of Pippa and the ‘Immortal Piu Piu’ – who were one with the universe even before they were born – is stunningly riveting. Piu Piu was born to experience a life of her own choice – a life where she could explore the primeval flavor of the universe as it expands into the consciousness that pervades even the beings we do not associate with the power of expression or understanding. Pippa’s intriguing relationship with the tomcat, the death of a hen killed by a mongoose, Pippa’s song as sung by her mother in keeping with the ancient culture of the land, as well as little Piu Piu’s growth into a radiant goose sheltered by her new family, are exhilarating and mind-blowing events in this tale. An undercurrent of mysticism runs through the story, touching hitherto unfathomed chords of a kind of magical consciousness in the minds of the reader. Questions like ‘Are we really what we are?’ and ‘Does my life really have a purpose other than living it to its inevitable end?’ whirl through one’s mind. Each event seamlessly merges with the next, adding new dimensions of philosophical reflection that continue to expand the reader’s consciousness by leaps and bounds.

A quote from the book I particularly liked because it added new meaning to the very purpose of creation, was: “Nothing could stop life from breaking barriers on its mission to create, to expand and to thrive”.

Avoiding any spoilers, I award this beautiful and heart-touching literary creation a resounding 5 Stars, and will look forward to this sparkling author’s next book!

Author Micheal Maxwell

Book Review 2017 by Bianca Gubalke

“All is right with the world.” ~ Robert Browning

Nothing is right in the world of Dupree when he wakes up one morning, wishing to be dead. Nothing had worked out in his life the way he had planned, and, suddenly, willfully, after leaving home with a demanding wife and a maddening bunch of hyped teens in the morning, the successful lawyer turns ‘the opposite direction of work’ and, bit by bit, liberates himself of the chains that he had pulled behind him ‘like Marley’s Ghost’.

As he embarks on an inner journey of changing himself, the world around him changes. Resonates. Leaves people in tears: “I don’t know what to say.”

But Dupree takes it further. So strong is his desire to leave the past behind and see the world with new eyes, that he throws caution to the wind and, abandoning his luxury car, patiently, expectantly, waits at the side of the road for whoever stops and invites him to share a part of their journey towards the North.

This is where the real music of this soul-baring story begins. Where the floodgates to thoughts, emotions and laughter are opened with characters from all walks of life, reminiscent of those in Robert B. Parker’s popular Spenser series. And as Dupree moves further and further away from where he started out, the reader is becoming part of the journey, looking back while moving forward, gaining new insights and truths, and wondering how it could possibly end . . .

A fast and fascinating read that puts many things into perspective. Don’t miss it!

About Mystery Fiction

It may be easy enough to spot an element of ‘mystery’ within a story or piece of literature, many more genres – call it categories – are often involved.

Defining an exact genre is, in most cases, pretty self-explanatory when it comes to Non-fiction, however, it can be rather tricky and frustratingly limiting in Fiction.  While “DARA & DUPREE”  has been classified as ‘mystery fiction’, it contains a number of elements that point towards other genres, eg. romance.

The same is true for “BORN WITH WINGS”, my magical realism fiction novel,  which is highly spiritual, visionary, mystical . . . and a mystery is being solved, too. And what a mystery!

Micheal Maxwell Author

For those of you who are interested in ‘clean’ mystery fiction, here is how the author introduces himself: “Micheal Maxwell was taught the beauty and majesty of the English language by Bob Dylan, Robertson Davies, Charles Dickens and Leonard Cohen. He has traveled the globe, dined with politicians, rock stars and beggars. He has rubbed shoulders with priests and murderers, surgeons and drug dealers, each one giving him a part of themselves that will live again in the pages of his books. Micheal Maxwell has found a niche in the mystery, suspense, genre with The Cole Sage Series that gives readers an everyman hero, short on vices, long on compassion, and a sense of fair play, and the willingness to risk everything to right wrongs. Maxwell is committed to writing a clean, character driven, mysteries series with lots of twist, turns, and heart.”

Healing the Eternal Soul

Book Review by Bianca Gubalke

In today’s chaotic and disruptive environment, more and more people feel inclined to stop searching their ultimate happiness and speedy gratification in perceived external values that always lead to some sort of boundary and frustration. Triggered by something negative happening in their lives – maybe a sudden accident, an addiction or an illness that no one seems to be able to cure, an inexplicable pain or phobia that just doesn’t seem to make sense but that, nevertheless, won’t go away, or a relentless pattern of pain and loss that seems to be repeating itself in their relationships – many people feel inclined to turn inside and try to find a bigger picture for their lives and, hidden within it, another possibility, another way that allows them to crash through their inhibiting physical limitations and explore a space of healing that lies beyond time and space . . . even beyond ‘the veil’.

Healing the Eternal Soul by Andy Tomlinson

Highly recommended for PLR Students

For anyone interested in metaphysical studies in general, and PLR (Past Life Regression) in particular, Andy Tomlinson’s non-fiction book “Healing the Eternal Soul”  is simply a must.

Starting out, it tells the fascinating story of how the author got onto his path and has followed it ever since. A collection of highly interesting case studies offer significant insights into how our ‘past’ affects our ‘present’, bearing in mind that ‘time’ only happens in the physical realm. When an illness or inexplicable fear can simply not be cured by our current ‘traditional’ methods, PLR offers a way to travel into a ‘past life’, right through the death experience, find the source that triggered the problem in that life, and heal the ensuing, unresolved, problem in the Now.

Based on his vast experience, the author not only shares a lot of knowledge but also offers wonderful assistance as far as the working with patients is concerned. Highly recommended for PLR students and anyone really interested in the subject matter. I am looking forward to reading Andy Tomlinson’s Exploring the Eternal Soul.”

Healing through Hypnosis

Crashing through one’s limitations and getting to the root of a pain or a phobia can be achieved through Past Life Regression. Dating back as far as the Upanishads in Ancient Indian literature, and pioneered in our more modern times by well-regarded academics in the medical field like psychiatrist Dr. Brian Weiss, and the founder of the Newton Institute, Dr. Michael Newton, to name a few who are also known in their capacities as teachers and trainers. Based on these giants, a new generation of specialists emerged, one being the psychotherapist Andy Tomlinson, the founder member of the Spiritual Regression Therapy Association, Norsk forbund for Regresjonterapi in Scandinavia, the Society for Medical Advance and Research with Regression Therapy, and the Earth Association of Regression Therapy.

And no! This has nothing to do with ‘religion’ or any cultural beliefs. It works its magic whether we ‘believe’ in it or not.

However, be warned! This journey into the deeper folds of your consciousness is not to be treated lightly; it can cast you into dramatic situations – such as in a life before this life… and not one you specifically enjoyed and where you may have died under traumatic circumstances . . . the memories of which may still be embedded in your current life and manifest themselves in forms of pain or phobias – situations, that are difficult to handle if you are alone and don’t know what or who you are dealing with. On the other hand, under the knowledgable care and guidance of an experienced professional past life regression therapist the insights can be mind-blowing, revelatory and life-changing, and the healing can be instant.

‘Born with Wings’ – the novel

I gave you the links to some of the most eminent teachers, trainers and practitioners today if you wish to take this topic further.  Note: Dr. Newton is retired now. But if you’d like to get the feel for it in a visionary fiction novel that gently guides you to find the key to YOUR eternal soul, you might consider my book: BORN WITH WINGS – The Immortal Life of Piu Piu. The brand-new edition was just released as an ebook on Amazon/KDP and will be available at all major retail outlets in the US as of next week. Yes – you can order it worldwide as from then!

Robin Gregory

Every now and then, a special book comes along that just brightens our day; this is the case of “The Improbable Wonders of Moojie Littleman”, a magical realism novel for young adults by Californian author Robin Gregory.

It is a tale born from real life experience that took many years to mature and complete into the multiple award-winning piece of literature it is now.

The Improbable Wonders of Moojie Littleman by Robin Gregory

Book Review by Bianca Gubalke

Even an earthquake responds to love and brings forth a hero

‘The Improbable Wonders of Moojie Littleman’ is a book that stands out.

It’s not a simple quick read, the one you zoom through alongside a gazillion of other things. And it certainly appeals to many readers, young in years or young at heart, who can identify with a battered underdog on his wondrous path to becoming a hero.

Just as the disabled Moojie in his fierce longing to belong, we all are on a journey together – all of us individuals with different virtues and traits, all of us from different environments, and all of us connected as family, community, one species. The difference lies in what drives us! This may be a passion, an inner knowing, our imagination, a dream, an openness to always expect the magical within the real – that sacred space where victims turn into heroes.

If you lean into the meaning, magic, humor and the rhythm of this exquisite tale you’ll find a gem your heart will treasure. And happily recommend.

How to find the Light

It took me a while to read this precious book as I wanted to give the book the space it deserves, and allow myself the time to dive into the author’s world, see the characters come alive and create a story I could resonate with . . . and discover astonishing parallels with  “The Immortal Life of Piu Piu”.

Abandoned. Alone. Lost. Handicapped. Hurt. Looking for family. For connection. LOVE. And finding it DESPITE ALL IMPROBABILITIES . . . because YES! We can!

The theme seems to be floating in the air. Answers are needed – more than ever before – in a world collapsing in chaos and fear where it’s easy to lose touch with our own inner knowing and magic, within the so-called ‘real’. And yet, that’s what change is all about . . . and if phoenix could and can rise from the ashes, so can we . . . and so did Piu Piu!

Thank you for your interest and do have a look at Robin Gregory’s work.

Magical Realism Book Review 2016

The Magic of Many Lifetimes

Some books come very close to being holy writ, sacred in their reach, profound in their wisdom, delightful in their humor, well-anchored in the world as we know it, fueled by the worlds we yearn for. This is such a book, with wonderful storytelling as well. You’ll meet Pippa, the girl who loves nature and thirsts for knowledge. You’ll meet Piu Piu, the one who takes the plunge into a brief flirtation with our temporal life and thirsts for freedom. Look closely: behind the magic, you’ll probably meet yourself. Highly recommended and magical.

The Power of Book Reviews

Like ‘word-of-mouth’, independent book reviews help readers find what they really want.

Personally, when I look for a book, I normally search with a clear purpose in mind, meaning, I know what I want. Either I know the book’s title or the author’s name. I  have so many books on my ‘to-read-list’, and even more on my coffee table and on my desktop Kindle, that I hardly browse to look for more. While I also edit and translate books for fellow writers – which is a lot of reading ! – I read a lot of books for research. I read great books by accomplished writers – often classics – to improve my knowledge and my own writing. And I read the books I give as gifts. While I prefer a non-fiction book in digital format as I might never look at it again, I love to hold a real book in my hands, especially if I cherish its contents and wish to come back to it again and again. Since I’ve entered the indie author arena myself this year (2016), I enjoy meeting other authors and reading their work – which is an almost impossible task and resembles an unstoppable river coming down and growing all the time!

I’m convinced that many indie authors feel exactly the same . . . We all still have to find the time to write and to market our books . . . What an enormous task this is! It can only be passion!

But most readers aren’t writers – at least not until now, although everyone has a story within them! – hence they love to browse! So while they may know their favourite fiction genre – say metaphysical fiction, a mystery series or magical realism –  what attracts them as they scroll through the endless lists of book titles, say on Amazon or in the Kindle Shop, will be one or more of the following elements the author and/or publisher have carefully pre-defined as potential magnets to make a particular book simply irresistible for them:

  • a beautiful cover, that stands out,
  • a title that might resonate with them,
  • a sub-title that offers further insights and raises curiosity,
  • some hooks that trigger their interest within an artfully crafted description and
  • a number of sincere, well-written and positive ‘reader reviews’ that create trust!

Just as I listen to book recommendations by my trusted friends and authors whose taste and background I know and respect, avid readers who are looking for their next book want to know what other readers said about a certain book . . . and, especially, how it made them feel!

Isn’t that what we all want when we dive into someone else’s magical world, which turns out to be – in some way or another – our own? A space of trust with values that we share? Where we all share the same frequency as ONE?

This is why I thank fellow magical realism author, M.R. Campbell, for a precious 5-star review on Amazon as well as on Goodreads for my visionary fiction book.

Oh, and I haven’t even started to promote  ‘The Immortal Life of Piu Piu”  on that platform yet! Speaking of a ‘to-do-list’ . . . and this while the next mystery book is already  waiting to be written.
